“objects in mirrors are closer than they appear“

February 10 -15 Private view: Thursday 10, 4.30 - 6.30pm  Opening times: Thursday 10, 5.30 - 7pm,  Friday 11 - Tuesday 15, 11- 6pm

This exhibition of 2nd and 3rd year BA (Hons) Drawing and Print students at UWE Bristol takes stock of a special moment in the young artists’ careers.
After experiencing the various struggles and restrictions during the ongoing pandemic, each of them is in the process of developing their personal artistic language. This can be informed by very idiosyncratic sources, personal stories, relationships, narratives, the murmurings of the world or the white noise of social media.
However, the phrase “objects in mirrors are closer than they seem” is not only a safety warning but also a well-known catchphrase in pop culture. Each medium has its own ability to change our perspective, to distort our images. We don’t need to avoid them, we should rather embrace them and turn them into smart gadgets and tools to generate knowledge and emotions.
