Centrespace co-operative are seeking a part-time Gallery & Events Co-ordinator, (2 days a week 14 hours, starting at £11per hour, employment terms to be advised). Deadline: Sunday 3rd July 2022 10pm
Interviews: Monday 11th July & Tuesday 12th July 2022 Start date: Thursday 1st September 2022.

Centrespace gallery was founded in 2000. It is large semi-industrial space of 120sq metres and is part of a thriving independent and sustainable community of artists and craftspeople offering both studio space, workshops, events and the gallery space for hire. The building was originally occupied by artists in the late 1970’s and has been running as a co-operative since 1987.

The gallery is an artist run, not for profit affordable space. Our ethos is to show fresh and interesting work across all art forms. We receive applications from established & mid-career artists, students & recent graduates with special emphasis on supporting and encouraging new talent. In support of a DIY culture, artists curate and install their own shows, invigilating and engaging with the public. The space can also be made available for experimental projects or as a temporary studio space to explore ideas. The gallery is an established important cultural destination in the city with 20 – 30 visitors a day and many committed followers who actively enjoy and support the wide variety of exhibitions.

The Gallery co-ordinator is the public face of the gallery and also the co-op.
This role is supported by a committee of studio holder volunteers. You will be expected to attend meetings and give updates on occupancy and feedback from hirers.

The ideal candidate must be well networked with artists and other creative organisations, energetic, hardworking, and creative. Confident in marketing and publicity; with an ability to work both independently and with the Gallery and Events committee members. The ability to deal with both the public, organisations is essential as well as the general administrative duties of running a gallery exhibition and events space.

There may be opportunity to expand this role.

Key Duties

Advertising and marketing (social media)
Respond to enquiries about the gallery & events space
Produce a monthly newsletter via email to the gallery mailing list (mailchimp) Collate and publish exhibition details on relevant websites & social media Support artists if needed through the booking process and how the gallery and events space works
Administration tasks, including financial Invoicing and recording.

Running the gallery & events space
Collating proposals
Mail out contracts, invoices, return deposits and publicity requirements
Induct hirers in and out of the gallery
Inform hirers of Health & Safety use of the gallery space and building
Take electricity metre readings
Key change over – Check gallery is clear of all personal items and that the space is ready for the next exhibition
Attend Gallery and Events Committee meetings
Liaise with the studio administrator
Produce an annual report for the AGM
Arrange cover for absences
Ensuring the space is well maintained
Organising of annual re-decoration (usually January)

High level of interpersonal skills
Previous knowledge of how a co-operative works Good computer skills (word, excel, powerpoint) Website publishing
Financial monitoring
Able to be self-sufficient and flexible
